This truly country Restaurant prides itself in ensuring the patrons enjoy flavour filled food, with hearty portions and the freshest ingredients. The theme and décor is ‘all things wine and vineyards’ and authentic elements from the surrounding farms and vineyards will be found in much of the décor that surrounds you. Alan & Cynthia Blain bring over 36 years combined hospitality experience to your table, with personalised service and attention to detail that is rare for a roadside eatery. De Oude Kombuis is much more than a restaurant, it’s a place where you will be enchanted by the food, the folk, and the local atmosphere and flavours. Outside is our wine garden / outdoor seating, with the central large fountain and shady seating. With only a bit of imagination you can transport yourself back 100 years and could be sitting in a farm yard of days gone by. Two shops spill out into the garden area where you can browse for local crafts and farm products, collectables and hand made Oak Barrel wood products. Many jams, sauces and salad dressings made in our kitchen and used at your table will also be on sale, some of it seasonal so not always available, but always fresh. Local art from the Breede River valley is on display and for sale, and by special agreement we carry the locally produced Karoo Brew beers. This micro brewery is fast making a name for itself with their Dark and Honey Draughts. De Oude Kombuis Kelder Restaurant is without any doubt one of the most charming stops on Route 62, situated at 60 Long Street in Montagu, the last building on Long Street on the Barrydale (Eastern) exit from the village.
