Ceres, a mere 150 km or 90 minutes drive from Cape Town, in the heart of the Cape Winelands, is the gateway to the Cederberg area (to the north) and Route 62 (to the south). The Ceres valley can be reached through Michell’s Pass (from Cape Town, via N1, R43, R46), Theronsberg Pass (from Touws River, R46) and Gydo Pass (from Citrusdal, R303)The Ceres Valley produces the finest deciduous fruit in South Africa. Also well-known for its fresh and dried fruit, fruit juices and natural spring water. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: The area is home to some of the best 4x4 routes, mountain bike trails, scenic hiking trails, abseiling, kloofing, quad biking, horse riding, skydiving, game drives and fresh water fishing – a haven for outdoor and adventure lovers. For the more relaxed enjoy golfing on the well-maintained and picturesque nine-hole course in Ceres, with stunning mountain views from almost all the holes. PRIVATE GAME RESERVES: Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve; Kagga Kamma Private Game Reserve. PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE: Matroosberg Reserve. SAN ROCK ART: The valley of Ceres, the Koue Bokkeveld and the open plains of the Tanqua Karoo were first inhabited by the San and Khoi, thousands of years ago. The San rock painting sites in the area are some of the best preserved in the country. SNOW: During the winter months, the mountains are often covered in snow and the area has been referred to as Little Switzerland. There are plenty of snow activities such as skiing and snowboarding to keep the whole family busy. EXPLORE THE SCENIC COUNTRYSIDE: The Ceres district consists of four diverse areas and each has its own unique charm and landscapes. Scenic mountain passes are the only gateways to the Ceres valley.
