Situated on the longest wine route in the world, Ashton is also the capital of the canning industry with two canning factories which offer group tours by arrangement. Ashton is situated on the R62, between Robertson and Swellendam, at the foot of the majestic Langeberg mountain range.

It is an important wine producing and fruit processing centre and home to five wineries and two large canneries. Cruise down the river: enjoy the wines of Viljoensdrift on the banks of the Breede River. Light lunches are served. Maps are available at the tourism Bureau. Try hanging from a cliff: two kilometers (1.25 miles) beyond Ashton, in Cogmans Kloof, are spectacular cliffs for rock climbing. There is the Old English Fort in Cogmans Kloof, about 4 kilometers from Ashton. The fort dates back to 1899 and the Anglo Boer War.

Steam Locomotive: next to the Municipal Offices, Main Road. Locomotive no 2010 class14 CRB was used on the Worcester-Mossel Bay rail section until 1983. View the Panoramic vista: follow the road markers to the viewing point for a spectacular view and excellent photo opportunities.

Accommodation options include guest houses, bed & breakfasts, self catering, farm style accommodation and much more! The area offers a good choice of places to eat, drink and relax.
